The metaphoric and symbolic post-martyr ceremonies of the two-decade career of Kobe Bryant began in late-2016. Upon scoring 60-points in his final professional game and riding off into the blissful sunset known as retirement…Nike introduced us to life after the “death” of Kobe. The Nike Kobe A.D. was a far cry from a traditional and conventional release as the signature abandoned its numbered status and opted to tell the tale of the Black Mamba…while still staying true to its iterations prior. But as we now embark on nearly the year anniversary of Kobe’s last hoorah, Nike has introduced the Kobe A.D. NXT. An extension, another peek into basketball’s afterlife.
Relying on a shroud, the model’s upper has been completely overhauled for a mesh base that is covered by a knitted shroud, tightened by a draw string lacelock system. Nike Zoom remains in the signature’s midsole/outsole and quite visible in the middle like the Mark Parker edition of the Kobe XI Elite Muse Series. The Kobe A.D. NXT is set to drop on Saturday, April 1st.
